Javascript would be able to do this at one go. You’re best bet is to put out a call for Dan Ebberts. If you’re feeling brave, you can look at the scripting PDF that would be installed in your AE folder for guidance.

With Particle Playground, you should look into the particle emitter’s position, the use of a Wall (using a closed mask shape), gravity and Kinetic Friction (under persistent property mapper).

Hmm. Me thinks you’re right. Nice workaround that should work. But for the long run, I’d much prefer if the AE folks at Adobe provided a more elegant solution.

Look for this javascript file, ScaleComp.jsx in the Support Files\Scripts\(demos) folder. It sounds like it’ll do the trick for you.

With Motion Math, in version6.0 and previous versions, there was a script that did such a trick rather well. Now that Motion math is no longer part of AE, there should be an Expression script that does something like this for you. You may want to search the COW Archives for the keywords Scale and Comp to see if you can find a solution that was elaborated here at the COW. You may also want to have a look at your scripts folder to see if there is a JS script that does what you need. I believe there is but I’m not on a machine to confirm this.

You need AE to deinterlace the fields if you want to prevent the dreaded combing effect for your non-interlaced output. You need to ensure that AE correctly interprets your DV footage as lower field. Interpreting fields will force AE to deinterlace the fields while setting it to lower field ordering will ensure that you are correctly interpreting the field ordering for DV footage.

Hi Steve, without precomps, the prefs for “sync related items” doesn’t come up as an issue for what I’d like to do. The issue is how does one interactively scrub the values for a keyframe while the timeline indicator is parked, away from the keyframe.

My bad. If the movement isn’t seamless then things get a bit more tricky and is dependent on the actual parameters that are used. You’re in the right direction with the U key, but the UU shortcut key may actually be better in this instance where non-animating parameters may have an effect on the look and speed. Parameters like speed, or any physics-related parameters may not require keyframes to affect the speed or velocity of an effect.
