This sounds interesting but I’m not following it. Can you explain a bit more.

Try setting your video preview to “Preview Auto”. That setting is just above your video preview display in a drop down.

I have had a similar experience when I drag and drop from a source other than the vegas explorer. When I use Vegas Explorer that never seems to happen.

You probably know this already but in the preferences under edit you can type the still image length you want as you drop images on the timeline, type the number of seconds you’d like the photos to be displayed in your movie.

Let me go over this once again which works for me.

1. make one text clip that says, Test(or whatever)
2. by using the ctrl and mouse highlight that clip and drag it to the left. Now you’ll have two copies of “Test”
3. Take the second copy and remove the lower case t. Now you’ll have two clips side by side that when run will say tes and then test.
4. Copy the “tes” clip and drag that one to the left.
5. Now you have two copies of “tes”. Take that clip and remove the “s”.

and so on.

I’ve uploaded a .veg file. Load this in Vegas and you’ll see how it 837_text.veg.zipworks.

What I do is type the entire line and put it on the timeline.
I hold my mouse with the ctrl key to make a copy
Then I work backwards removing a letter at a time with each copy.
Be sure everything is flush left though so spacing won’t be an issue.

If I’m understanding you correctly, moving a whole block of clips and audio at one time are a feature of the Auto Ripple. It’s probably my most used feature but at the same time can mess you up faster than you can believe.
It’s the little gray and green icon with the arrow on top and is located on the top icon bar.

Vegas should open up your veg files from previous versions of Vegas but new versions can’t be opened up in old versions.
Do you know about the back up files Vegas creates? Do a file search for *veg.bak and there should also be some automatically backed up files with numbers such as 0000658.autosave.veg.bac
One of those files might save the day.

That’s a good question and one I’d like to hear more of from the experts on the forum.
I have 16 megs of ram and a new I7 processor and if I have more than a few video tracks, it still chokes when viewing. I really never can view my video on the timeline in anything but the “preview-auto” mode which seems fine for the most part.
I’m viewing my timeline on a 42″ Sony HD 1080p flat screen TV. I’m amazed at how others can edit and monitor footage at anything less. I’ve been in edit suites where I can barely see fonts they’re so small.
