That’s a good question and one I’d like to hear more of from the experts on the forum.
I have 16 megs of ram and a new I7 processor and if I have more than a few video tracks, it still chokes when viewing. I really never can view my video on the timeline in anything but the “preview-auto” mode which seems fine for the most part.
I’m viewing my timeline on a 42″ Sony HD 1080p flat screen TV. I’m amazed at how others can edit and monitor footage at anything less. I’ve been in edit suites where I can barely see fonts they’re so small.

I switched to HDV a year or more ago. I’m waiting for my Intensity shuttle to come in, which let’s you capture direct from the imager, before the HDV compression takes place. HDV has it;s limitations. It’ll capture 8 or 10 bit uncompressed or Lossless Motion JPEG. I do alot of chromakeying and caan’t wait to see the difference. The shuttle is only 199$

    Hey Danny,
This is getting more and more confusing the more I research…over at the “other forum” they were suggesting BMD Intensity pro. I went to B&H and found it bundled with Cineform Neo Scene https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/667640-REG/Blackmagic_Design__Intensity_Pro_with_Cineform.html
Can you tell me the difference in these two products/conversion techniques…like I was a 6 year old please.
    Thanks,
    Randy

$199 plus the megabucks desktop system with a heavy duty contingent of five or six large, fast hard drives running as a raid array to keep up with the uncompressed video stream. Have you seen the thread on this very subject?

    ummmm….no sir I haven’t but I’ll look for it.
So do you think my best option would be the Cineform software I mentioned above?
    Thanks very much Bob,
    Randy

Actually, I was directing the question to Danny Hayes, but the discussion is here assuming that I did that correctly.

Reading that thread makes me think I’m okay with the video card I have Bob.

Yes you will need a raid system IF you have to capture uncompressed, but not if you capture to motion JPEG which is supposed to look very little different from uncompressed but way smalleer file size, and without a raid array I believe. I’ll find out and post comparisons here when I get it. Danny Hays

Samples would be very cool Danny…I do mostly corporate work so the difference may not be a big deal for me.
    Thanks very much,
    Randy
