USB vs Thunderbolt make a dif here?[Keith Mullin] “Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 will not really have any noticeable difference in performance for a single spinning hard drive”
Exactly. If we’re talking single HD drive, then whether it’s USB3 or TBo is completely irrelevant. SSD of course being a whole different ball ‘o wax. But even a HD RAID under at least 4 disks (depending on the level even 5) won’t saturate either bus. Thinking that any one HD is faster just because it’s on TBo as opposed to USB3 is unfortunately a common fallacy.
And rpms are virtually irrelevant also with today’s disks. A few hundred rpms more or less will make zero perceptual difference in speed.

So the, until now, mere 3 to max 4 months (with one exception) between updates, i.e. over 20 in just five years weren’t enough for that already? Wow. Okay.

January 25, 2017 at 3:11 pm in reply to: 10.3.2 Is out – WOW review from a huge X facility in Europe.[David Mathis] “but still no out of sync indicators.”
And don’t hold your breath, seeing that they are of zero relevance in X.
Unless of course you can outline any situation or task in FCP X where you haven’t simply done something completely unnecessary to your synced audio to equally unnecessarily cause the asynchronous result to begin with. Anything where the proposed sync indicators could be of global and practical use, as opposed to simply switching to a more sensible, existing workflow alternative to whatever it is you’re doing. Something that can somehow make the obvious point that shows why sync indicators could in fact be considered a constructive improvement or necessity. Including for every other X user that has actually understood the most basic concepts of how X works and not just for making the lives of those easier that are just ignorant of certain workflows (and unwilling to learn/adapt). The latter, from my experience, being the only ones that ever felt synch indicators could actually make any sense. And always for mere familiarity reasons, not out of objective necessity. So yes, I’d truly be very curious what that task or situation could be.
I’ve asked that every time I see that come up, too, and to date not once actually gotten an answer that didn’t simply describe the above. Or I just simply got the ol’ “Because I need them. Period.” response as their only logical justification (much like it seems to be the case here once again?). Or no response at all. At least I haven’t seen any practical explanations as to why we should be hoping for them. But maybe I just overlooked them? Or could this be a first? ????

[Steve Connor] “but full screen on the tilde key is something I used a lot so might give it a miss for a bit longer!”
So why not simply open the Command Editor and map it?
[andy patterson] “I myself think the CC should be $14.95 a month for everything.”
I personally wouldn’t care if they even made it $5. Either way, I’m not interested in paying ransom money for my own work and data. Never mind the massive copy-protection mess that does nothing but punish the honest user. Even when I had a legitimate license for CS6 and before, I still only ever used a hacked version after being ****ed over by disappearing “activations” at the worst possible times and needing hours if not days of getting it figured out and back to work.
But then I personally don’t see how anyone that’s on a Mac would not want to use FCP X instead and prefer to pay exponentially more money for no relative functional or performance advantages whatsoever. Quite the opposite in fact. But hey… to each his own, right? ????
Even Affinity Photo and Design have more features many times over than I could ever need for that kind of work. And for the 10% of stuff I can’t do in Motion just as well if not better/faster, I still have AE CS6. So yeah, I’m good. ☺

January 25, 2017 at 12:12 pm in reply to: How can I use proxy and original media in the same project?[Noah Kadner] “1 extra TB should hold proxies for several large projects at once and would cost less than $100. So not really getting why this is an issue.”
Agreed. 1 TB can hold near 20 hours of Proxy footage. I edited a project with well over 1 TB of 2K footage. The proxies worked out to less than 150GB. Even the slowest, cheapest and oldest external USB3 drive performs well enough to play 5+ streams of it at a time. And you can get a 2TB one for as low as $70.

Again, without knowing exactly what you’re trying to do, there is little in terms of specifics I can give you.
Maybe take a look here: https://www.rippletraining.com/products/motion/rigging-publishing-for-motion-5/

That’s what I suspected.
You can publish the position parameters as a whole, but you cannot publish any one value of any one keyframe, no.

January 21, 2017 at 11:33 am in reply to: How to modified second keyframe using sliderOdd question. Without knowing which parameter we’re talking about and/or far more precisely what it is you’re trying to do, this could only turn into an endless guessing game.
If it doesn’t have a slider, there’s no sliding. But pretty much every parameter value can be scrubbed.

January 19, 2017 at 12:17 pm in reply to: Do you recommend Photoshop or Illustrator for Motion?Depends on what exactly you’re looking to create. Illustrator files can’t be imported (other than as PDF) into Motion. Of course most things (such as shapes, masks etc.) are just as well if not better made directly in Motion, with the accompanying flexibility. Question is to what degree either apps are in fact even necessary. But if has to be the one or other, then you’re best using high-res PS files.
