Yes Ive down loaded it.. but yet to use in anger.. the HD-VU also looks interesting as Im not a big fan of the pana P2 CMS or anyway Iam not that familiar with it.

But this HD-VU looks just what I wanted.. simple and easy.. I hope.. to view P2 cards, as easy as viewing CF downloads from my nanoflash.. just for checking.. I dont do any editing..

My work .. doc,s and corp is for sure still in the 2/3 chip shoulder mount realm.. have used the 7D for drama stuff for a recent doc.. ok now that there is a decent EV around.. but ofcourse one HDMI cable broke.. I basically live and die by the zoom lens (fujinon 4.7) only rarely even put on a standard zoom for the telephoto.. plus no assistant and no time to change lenses these days ! and I need a camera I can put on my shoulder straight off the tripod..

The 3100 seems a great camera to me.. at am amazing price.. varicam quality for 1/3 the price.. my option is Sony 800 XDCAM.. also great camera but still moving parts,need a player etc.. although it is popular.. dont want to play out from the camera with P2 or XDCAM unless an emergency

Anyway look forward to your shotput V4 review.. and when will thunderbolt card reader/HDD arrive !!

Yes a useful l tool by the sounds of it.. and there certainly seem to be more young tech savey directors out there.. or Iam just getting old 🙂

Any thoughts about the 3100.. I thought there would be alot more noise on the internet when this camera came out..

Sorry for delay just got back.

Yes I pretty much just hand over the footage.. and mostly get a DVD of the finished product… no interaction with the editor basically.. sometimes before the shoot as they are the only ones who will know for sure the frame rate.. 🙂

Excuse my ignorance.. what is the greatness of being able to send metadata wirelessly as you shoot..?

For editing I presume.. but what data is needed so urgently and why ..?

Sorry I only shoot,but iam thinking of getting the 3100.. so wanted to understand this whole metadata thingy..

I wont be editing,and we did re shoot.. but if they could use the pixel out footage too would be better.

Just wanted to see if it could be done.. and how much of a hassle /time if it could be saved..

Thanks for quick reply.. its over quite a few shots.. is this something that can ” programed in to do” or has to done shot by shot.. obviously the burnt out pixel isnt moving .. its on the footage.. against white its very hard to see at all.. but anything dark you see it..

Yes a burnt out pixel can be fixed by doing a black balance .. I think it just switches it off.. we did re shoot but I was just wondering if there is an easy way in post to get rid of this tiny white dot.. it was over quite a few shots.. but extremely hard to see..

Yes Im pretty sure there was a new one this year.. making the 3100 look even more like what I wanted.
Small-ish ,very good price,64 GB cards that got cheaper.. and added bonus a decent VF..!!

Thanks for your reply.I have a HDX900 and the BW viewfinder was one of the few things I didnt like about the camera,compared to the Sony VF on my digibeta 790.But have got used to it over the years.

I read that a new BW VF had come out with the 3100,although the older model (HDX900) would also work..
great I thought.. a new camera.. AND a better BW VF.. 🙂 just wondered if anyone has used this new model BW finder yet.. Abel cine posted a video a while back saying it really was much better than previous model..

Any other pro,s con,s re the 3100.. except ofcourse the incredible price ?

What are your crews using for downloading in the field? if they ever do that..
