They probably added the hand reflection in post too to fool everyone.. 🙂

There are no rules.. but as rule.. its easier and with much nicer results to light a shiny surface with a large soft light.. otherwise you,ll get traditionally non aesthetically hard little points of light reflecting off the subject.. and not really lighting it either..

Classic example of this is shooting cars in a studio.. you would use few ,but massive soft lights.. esp over head.. and the large white rectangular reflections are often used as “effect”.. (night shots of cars outside usually dark in color to reflect all the nice neons etc.. )

Luckily ipad is very small.. your not shooting a big ad for apple so you may not get the results that they can.. might look easy/simple.. but many hours and lots of money spent on them..

If you get a dark room.. and maybe some kino flo lights.. Diva .. 400 or even a couple of 200,s.. and play around.. a turn table is a pretty cheap way to get a bit of extra production value.. very slow movements ofcourse..

When I shot laptops for Sony.. all the screen images were “put in” in post.. I think this is pretty standard procedure..

Other than that.. totally dark studio.. and large soft lights.. and a simple turn table.. you,ll always get reflections.. just make them work for you.. hence large soft light light source.. even just one can look good for small ipads..

Its the old joke.. whats the difference between highlight and flare… about $1,000 a day.. .. ie added to to your day rate.. 🙂

Yes good idea ofcourse.. if there are any around here.. saw a bit on youtube too.. looks like they might be great for interviews.. very handy here in Tokyo.. low voltage.. tiny rooms.. and power points !! have the Diva 400.. but these look even easier..

I,d say the SD glass would be better.. but you,ll lose ofcourse the wide angle end of it..

Do these lights give a soft enough light.. I ask as the actual source size is very small.even being quite close to the subject.. or does the cut glass do an incredible job..

Ok thanks guys… was just a question I had been meaning to post for a while.. still on track to get the 3100 and probably a nexto for the down loads..

Big fan of shotput pro.. use it for nanoflash down loads.. but seems until a thunderbolt card reader ,too slow USB 2 on my MBP..

Nothing really.. iam not an editor.. but just reading up on P2 it seemed a common problem,issue .. and i have had directors ask me to,if possible not shoot from one card to another.. obviously they have had some problems or heard about them as i have ..

Although it does to be human error,or ignorance at the root of these ingest problems..

Just a thought.. does the rink have any spot,super trouper.. that someone could operate to follow the skaters..? a different look but as you dont have the two trucks of lights .. could look better than just very flat house lights.. even with a 1.2 K HMI.. banging in..

Yes that was my feelings too re XDCAM.Yes no slo mo with the 3100.. I presumed it had time lapse though.. better check that..
Yeah solid state is logically the best way to go..down loading time only seeming to be the cookie in the silk sheets at the moment.. although this soon looks like it could become a 10/15 minute job at the end of the day.. and only a slight pain for having a non moving parts camera and all the advantages of that.

I cant see P2 64GB cards ever being $40 and so chargeable as tapes.. a bit cheaper would be good,but at least now its affordable to have a days worth of cards without the need to down load during your lunch break.or the stress of having to think about it !!

What is your down load system for in the field work?
