October 10, 2011 at 4:32 am in reply to: New Ultra High-Speed SDHC Memory Cards for Pro UseOk see what you mean..
But I guess apart from drama/commercials/CGI heavy programs 50 to 100 Mbps is totally ok for the average doc Natgeo/Discovery etc.. or maybe Pana/or someone.. will also make an adaptor like the one for SxS.. to SD …
If the big problem for most of us is that even the slightest risk of problems puts us off SD.. and makes us pay out for the more expensive cards.. basically for peace of mind..
If SD cards can be as safe as P2. the only problem being the small size.. I would think P2 would be used only for very high end productions needing well over 100 Mbps..
Besides the card reader. What would be the big difference in work flow.. once FCP,Avid etc support the codec..?
Thanks again for your time..

Thanks for your reply..do you think this implies that Pana will replace P2 with these new pro cards.. at some stage.. would seem the logical path.. if they can be used for 50Mbps recording.. (same as XDCAM 422 GOP)
50 Mbps being accepted as “HD ‘ by most networks.. (can they record 100 Mbps.. ) ?? And have the bullet proof features of P2.. surely P2 would be phased out. in favor of these cheaper cards..As many are already using SD cards in adapters for SxS.. cards.. for good or for bad..
For me like most pro,s the cost of the cards (P2 or SxS) is nothing compared with the nightmare of losing footage on a job,but if the pro cards have this same reliability whats stopping it taking over .. besides the fact they are so small :)..

Doesnt ring my bell.. really boring lighting.. and not that hard to achieve Iam sure the DP could have done better except this flat look is the in thing at the moment.. and must have been requested..

Sorry to hear of your problems.. I,ll be interested to see what others say as a HDX900 owner.. I havnt had any problems myself.. touch wood !!!
Does sound odd to shoot 15 tapes that are all fine and only one has weirdness.. and only in the middle the tape
So what was the answer from pana for the first problem that they “fixed” what was causing that..?

Hi Todd
You,d be surprised how many producers dont see this side of the job as paid work 🙂
My thoughts were more that if people dont know how to do it,have to down load software, buy DVD burners etc.. there has to be a fair possibility of screw ups.. you could put money on it.. so being counter to the need for getting the footage as quick as possible.. so in this case far better to deal with it yourself..
I once had to fly to Germany with one tape, from Tokyo.. straight from the shoot to the airport.. that would be another way to do it.. but a bit expensive 🙂

Great glad you got it!! share your pain.. its really annoying going through menu,s and not being able to find what you want!! and then ,when it actually makes some sense when you find it .. 🙂

I would go from the other way.. as a cameraman.. if you are already saying it will be in various formats, and then asking crews to change files, burn this, down load that software.. etc.. way more chance of screw ups..
Get it all fedex ed to you.. know whats coming in.. and get your post house all ready to deal with it.. safest and probably quickest way..
Personally I think its not the camera crews responsibility to burn DVD,s.. make archive.. change files etc.. (sure down load to a HDD or two, from the original format).. or else make it a shoot with this camera or you dont get the job situation..
My 2 cents 🙂

Is the VF 4-3 too..!! this has to be a menu setting.. maybe in LCD/ view finder section.. sounds like anamorphic setting is on if its all squashed up..
Iam surprised you thought it was a camera short coming

Hi Tim
Ive not used DSLR,s much.. but last time the camera assistant dont want to go over 2000 ISO,or even 1600.. so I think 5000 will give you trouble.. could you not shoot at 2.8 and bring the ISO down..?
Iam no expert with those camera,s.. just what Ive heard from others who know more than me..
Good luck..
