Burnt out Pixel
Posted by Robin Probyn on July 11, 2011 at 2:24 pmAny way/or how can one burnt out pixel, giving tiny white dot near center frame,be saved in post/edit..
I got rid of it in the camera by doing black balance..
Thanks

July 11, 2011 at 2:27 pmIf it’s burned onto the footage you could use Scratch Removal or Paint and clone it out. Since it’s just 1 pixel you should be able to borrow a pixel from above/below/right/left of it pretty easily without it being noticeable.

July 11, 2011 at 2:35 pmHi there
Thanks for quick reply.. its over quite a few shots.. is this something that can ” programed in to do” or has to done shot by shot.. obviously the burnt out pixel isnt moving .. its on the footage.. against white its very hard to see at all.. but anything dark you see it..
Thanks again

July 11, 2011 at 2:39 pmIn Avid you can use a blank video track as an adjustment layer – that is, apply the effect to a blank track above your footage, set it to clone pixel above/below/right/left of the burnt out pixel, and it will do that for every clip below that track.
I would probably try Scratch Removal. Do you cuts, lock your edit, then on a blank track above your edits but below your graphics add the Scratch Removal effect. Select the pixel/draw a mask around it/paint it out. Then shift it by 1. Scrub through your footage to see if it need adjusting. If it does, add a cut mark on the effect track, adjust it, and continue down the timeline.

I wont be editing, and we did re shoot.. but if they could use the pixel out footage too would be better.
Just wanted to see if it could be done.. and how much of a hassle /time if it could be saved..
Thanks agai

July 12, 2011 at 5:35 pmThere’s a BCC plugin called Pixel Fixer that does exactly this.
