The more I stare at this comp, it looks as though the video layers, as they are revealed in the text layer, are not as dark and rich as the underlying video. It is as though a gray haze covers the video.

So perhaps the lack of richness if not due to fading out the video layer. It appears to be a function of the track matte alpha invert.

    Any ideas.
    Thank,

I have been using a Firmtek card with two Firmtek enclosures, a two bay and a five bay. It works just fine. How it might work with a different brand I can’t say.

    Thanks Ross.
I’ll check my calibration again. When we shot we used both the macbookpro and a small panasonic hd lcd field monitor to check image and waveform.

Thanks Ross. I am puzzled by the look of the footage in mxo master view.

The footage I am working with was shot very low on the waveform. Just lows and midtones with almost no hightlights and that is how it looks in the FCP canvas. When I switch over to mxo master view the footage looks pushed, very light and noisy. This puzzles me.

I believe I have calibrated my bars correctly in mxoland and don’t understand why this footage looks so blownout.

    Brendan,

    Thank you for the response.

I will try to devise a work flow that would allow me to do all the compositing in AE. That sounds like a good idea.

I did have the alpha set to straight so that could not be the culprit.

The footage came from an HDX-900 so they were not MXF files.

Thanks for the information Todd. Those issues of foreground and background had me worried. We will try to get what we need while shooting.

    Thanks David,

I am using the Easy Setup for DVCPRO HDpA24. However it is a custom setup as I use non-controllable device for capture now.

I was just snooping around the program to try and figure how it worked and was wondering what was up with the settings. Trying to break into the black box so I understood how it works and also trying to decipher the world of HD.

    Shane,

Thanks for making me aware of these issues. Perhaps I could use the capture now function as a monitoring tool while shooting and later capture the tapes with time code.
