  • Well I think I understand what you’re trying to do. I can only give you the way I handle it.
I often take work home (no, I have no life other than this, that’s true enough). So I have a portable raid that I drag back and forth. The projects are matched using the same directory structure: one my internal raid and the other the portable. However, even though everything is named the same the Mac OS is smart enough to know that one “Raid Set” is different from the other “Raid Set.” (Curse you Steve Jobs). The project files are just fine (I keep them in DropBox so they’re automatically synced between my machines). My trick is to use ChronoSync and make sure all the media files and other associated files (music, graphics, etc.) One big part of this is to make sure all the media files, including the audio and video render files and the waveform displays, all this miscellaneous bits are in mirrored directories and that they care kept in sync. Otherwise I get a lot of missing media message when opening the project on the opposing machine. Then I have to do some hand work to relocate everything. If your media is not equal on the two machines, say one set at full rez and the other at proxy, well, you’re always going to have trouble.
    That help at all?

Just out of curiosity, why are you exporting at all? Don’t you want to work with the file?

yup, because he’s talking about frame size while now talking frame rates. VHS? well, we’re kinda limited on both.

When I say HD I mean HD, not this faux size odd codec really compressed stuff, myself. But then I’m lucky, I know. And when I’m forced to use HDV, and I do mean forced, I never use firewire, it’s always from the HDSDI port into the HDSDI of the Kona Card and right into ProRes in an HD frame size. Making everything the same on the input end makes life a LOT easier.

the normal process for this would be to render out a Quicktime MOV
I know that if you use h264 you can get some green banding under certain circumstances.

    Try sending it to STP,
then in STP right click on the file in the editor and pick the bottom selection, I think it’s called replace with independent media. That creates a new STAP clip to work with. When you export back don’t check the box for referenced media. See what happens that way.
