It does seem to be a bug. It works in some timelines but not others. Don’t know why. It really was a problem in my last multi-clip job. The workaround, of course, is to sync perfectly in the bin.

It must be the way QT is interpreting the pixel aspect ratio. Sounds like you’re good to go.

What settings in compressor did you use to create the file?

The 640×480 file is most likely the same size as the 720×480. It may have converted it to square pixels.

The Contour Shuttle Pro for about $100US is a device I use all the time. It’s very customizable and works great. Use it with your left hand while mousing or keyboarding with the right. Very efficient.

Analog compression? Please explain.

Be sure to choose deinterlace or progressive when you’re compressing for the web. You might be making an interlaced file. If you do this you won’t have to deinterlace it in FCP.

I just did a job for some folks that brought 2 PAL V1Us with them. This really excited me because I’m very interested in this camera. However, I was amazed at how bad the sensitivity was. Here’s the question: Is this 1/3″ 3-CMOS camera worse in low light than other current 1/3″ 3-CCD cameras? This issue is potentially a deal breaker for me.

You can pull clean keys from DV footage using an After Effects plug-in called DV Matte Pro. They also make a Final Cut version.

Why not just build the whole comp in AE and forget about exporting with alpha channel?
