compressor changes 720×480 to 640×480 in mpeg 2 w/embedded audio…
Posted by E. Eric johnson iii on July 14, 2007 at 7:48 pmof course the client needs 720×480.
when i look at the inspector, prior to submitting, it says in the summary that the file will be 720×480; however, after it’s done and it plays back in QT, it comes out as 640×480.
is there something i’m missing? it’s driving me nuts.
i’m using compressor 3 & in the inspector (geometry) the “dimensions (encoded pixels) option is grayed-out so it’s not available.
thank you for your input,

July 14, 2007 at 8:03 pmWhat does it actually say in QuickTime info for the clip? Just 640×480, nothing else?
All the best,
Tom

July 14, 2007 at 8:47 pmThe 640×480 file is most likely the same size as the 720×480. It may have converted it to square pixels.

that makes sense.
pardon my ignorance, but how do i reset the pixels so i get back to 720×480? i don’t see an option for that in compressor.
thank you,
eric

July 14, 2007 at 11:51 pmhi rick-
i started with the basic “DVD-Best-90minutes…” then i tweaked what settings i needed too, i.e. added “audio layer 2” changed the settings my client needs, “upper-field first” and that’s about it.
i got the audio, but the 720 is a mystery.
i also tried it in sorenson, but they don’t support mpeg2 muxed… so…
that’s where i stand.
thanks for your help.

July 15, 2007 at 1:38 amsorry for the additional post (again)…
i took one of the compressor made mpeg2/lyr2-audio files into streamclip and it tells me that the file size is 720×480; even tho’ it says it’s 640×480 in QT.
am i insane or is there something in QT that automatically reads mpeg2 as 640?
again, thanks for the help.

July 15, 2007 at 1:55 amIt must be the way QT is interpreting the pixel aspect ratio. Sounds like you’re good to go.

i was wondering if that might be the deal. i couldn’t figure-out any other possible answer. getting some affirmation via the cow helps in the overall scheme of things.
