Jim…from your response, I’m assuming you don’t have this issue. So, there must be a setting I’m missing.

I’m using 8 bit uncompressed footage on a dual 2.7 system with FCP5. In motion, I’m simply scaling it down to about 50% or so. I’ve had better luck exporting an .mov, but bringing the unrendered footage back into FCP, and rendering there, just isn’t clean. It looks like the same scaling issues that FCP 4.5 has. I’ve tried changing settings in Motion, but without any luck. I thought it might have been a field dominance thing, but all settings are set to lower field first.

It would be great if the IO had firewire inputs. DV decks that don’t have component or SDI could still benefit from the various capture codecs. Has AJA considered this?

  • It’s very easy to let DVD Studio Pro do the encoding for you. I’ve had good luck setting the DSP encoding preferences to 2 pass VBR, minimum 6, maximum 7. A one-pass CBR at a high setting I’d expect would be fine also. Export a QT movie from the FCP timeline but don’t make it self-contained. Import that proxy file as an asset into DSP.

Thanks to all. I didn’t realize that the Kona 2 didn’t have analog input. That would have been a big mistake!

In squeeze mode, is the image distorted while shooting? And when used in Final Cut Pro, or Premiere what will the image look like?

I always check that when I check Refresh external video. It’s usually OK. When I reboot, the setting will sometimes change to “off”. when changed back to view all frames, the video will then be output to the monitor…So the question remains: Why does the video to the external monitor flake out when I change video inputs?
