Thom…Use the Motion2 CG. It’s higher quality than the Boris CG included in FCP with much greater functionality.

Make sure the alpha channel of the Livetype image, in FCP is set to “black”, not “straight”. Right click (control click) the file either in the timeline or the browser, got to item properties: format. In the Alpha field, right click “straight” change to “black”. This should help clean up the aliasing.

A Clip Overlay is black line on video clips or red line on audio that are superimposed over the clip on the timeline. Clip Overlays are selected by toggling the control on the bottom left of the timeline or by hitting option “w” on the keyboard.

Hi Bob…Are you viewing the Clip Overlays? If you are, the arrow will change to the pen when you get close to the keyframes.

    Should be fine. I have the X800 supporting 2 Dell 24″ LCD’s.

In the upper right hand corner of Motion is the View drop down. Field rendering and motion blur need to be checked. Yeh!!!

Yes…It’s outputting to a sony reference monitor (CRT) component input via IO LA. I just tried different footage in AE and am OK with the results. Still have the Motion issue though.

Well, I just tried creating an .mov in after effects. Scaling in AE even looks bad in the FCP timeline. What gives?

I had the Motion settings set to normal. I changed it to best and tried again…No luck. I then did a test comp in FCP, rendered it and the scaling looks good. Then I took the same raw footage, sent it to Motion, did the scaling there and rendered it in FCP. No good. For some reason, the scaling fix in FCP5 has no effect on Motion created comps. Jim…Give this test a shot and see what you think.
