I created text animation in Live type. Then imported to final cut pro. The problem is the text looks all blocky, I was wondering is there a way to make the text look smooth?

You must only judge image quality on an external video monitor and not on the computer monitor.

You must render all effects to view the full quality.

If you repositioned the LiveType image in FCP, make sure the vertical position (in the Motion tab) is on an “EVEN” whole number (no fractions, no “odd” numbers).

Make sure the alpha channel of the Livetype image, in FCP is set to “black”, not “straight”. Right click (control click) the file either in the timeline or the browser, got to item properties: format. In the Alpha field, right click “straight” change to “black”. This should help clean up the aliasing.

Those are all good tips to consider. BUT, did you check to see if your LiveType project settings match your FCP sequence settings? Often times these are not the same. LiveType always opens to the last used project setting. For example, you did your last LiveType project in DV and your next FCP Sequence is uncompressed 8-bit. Well, those are different screen aspect ratios. You’ll get waht looks like serious aliasing happening when you render your timeline. In that case, just change your LiveType project settings to CCIR 601 NTSC 40:27 and save your project. Now, when you render in FCP, your CG will look correct. Give that a shot!

    Hi Wayne,

If my FCP Sequence Preset is to uncompressed 10 bit NTSC 48 kHz than what should be my LiveType project settings? Should my LiveType project setting be CCIR 601 NTSC 40:27 or at NTSC DV 3:2 ?

    Thanks for any help given.

When editing, always match any of your project settings with programs. This will cut down on any aliasing issues and render issues.

As a rule of thumb, never use any DV settings with Uncompressed projects. This is more than likely where you are getting your aliasing issues. I assume that you are working with SD video resolution. In that case, use CCIR 601 NTSC for your LiveType project.
