Well.. you could right click (ctrl click) on F to choose Create layers

BUT

many includie clipping paths and won’t import

I recommend in CS 2 making a new layer above the two
Click on both layers (so they are both selected.)

And choose Option Merge Selected (alt)

to merge to the target layer.. turn the other layer off…

Of course… making an alpha channel and saving a Pict or Targa is still the easiest way if you don’t need to import a layered PSD…. you can see teh alpha channel action in the Video Actions set for help.

Look under teh automate menu for Image Processor…

also.. woudl suggest in your camera.. most of option to Shoot Raw + basic the basic is an identical JPEG.. saves a lot of work…

RAW files are meant to be ‘devloped’ manually so you can choose the dynamic range and otehr issues. Just batching to JPEG completely defeats the point of shooting RAW in the first place.

78 inch X 72 ppi = 5616 total pixels
56 inch X 72 ppi = 4032 total pixels

Just use Image Size Comman

The first

5 X 7 at 300 dpi means 1500 X 2100 total pixels

Not a problem

the second size

24 X 36 at 300 ppi = 7200 X 10800

Which means: “WITHOUT compromising the visual quality of the original?”

You’re screwed.. you can’t up res without losing something…

Also

The Aspect ratio of your original (width divided by height) is approximately 1.4

What you are aasking for is .72 and .66 respectively

Also.. can’t see why your printer would ask for a JPEG… not a professional output format for that sort of thing…

The short answer you have a lack of resolution compounded by a mismatch of ratios, file formats, and a few other things.

Expand grows out alogn the pixel path… so it rounds out (or stair steps)

Use Select>Transofrm Selection (just liek Free Transform) You can drag handles or specify size in options bar

Make a selection and then shoose Select modify Feather.. Add a Mask and blur

Or speed it up and add the feather right in the options bar to your marquee and lasso tools

Reload PS is best way… there ar a few files that get buried into the Library… if you upgraded your OS (like Panther to Tiger)…. it can delete or skip some of these…

Back up your presets and plugins folders… then reload
