I’m reading through the Compression Primer white paper from Adobe (very interesting) and am searching for more information resources. I was just wondering if anyone else had worked producing video presentations to import into Authorware (.swf or .flv won’t import – only Flash 7 files) and any tips they may have…

I think what’s more amazing is that this show is still watched by so many while it’s musical credibility sinks lower and lower…

    Yep – that’s the one…

Essentially, I have a 720×486 30fps :05 logo animation I’ve created as my test. It’s original output size from After Effects is 95.6MB. When I run it through all the .swf output settings (just to get a full sampling of file sizes & quality for example) I don’t get various .swf files at 720×486 – most are about a quarter of that size (regardless of the settings I make in the “formats/new” menu.)

Obviously there’s a lot about Squeeze I need to learn but it shows great promise (a fine looking .swf -albeit smaller formatted – is only 13K)… I cannot fathom how a file can go from 95MB to 13K w/ such little quality degredation…

Yes, as a matter of fact – they play just fine with quicktime et al, that’s what has perplexed me about all of it…

April 20, 2007 at 7:42 pm in reply to: Importing paths from AE to Illustrator?

I know this question has come up a lot in the past with prior versions of illustrator & AE, but there’s a preference setting variable in Illustrator for exporting – there are only 2 options so whichever one you’re using now, try the other and everything should cut/paste back and forth easily. Sorry I can’t be more specific at the moment…

I would think the further the object/layer is from the POV, the slower it would pan – lessen the contrast and blur it too since “it’s too late to use the camera” (I don’t understand why, but I’ll take your word for it.)

This brings up another question I had – I’ve read up on the Adobe Creative Suite Production Premium bundle (Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash, AE, Premiere, Soundbooth, Encore)and it all looks extremely impressive – especially for only $1800.00 – but it’s not due to be released for several months.

Is there a similar bundle available now that will allow you to upgrade once the CS3 version comes out – and if so, has anyone worked with it (again, on a PC.) I’ve tried to find this info on the Adobe site, but cannot for some reason.

May 5, 2006 at 6:24 pm in reply to: AE contractor/freelance rate question

The company wants to get one rate that encompasses all his job functions – creative concepting, client presentation, pre-production, talent coordination, production supervision, vendor coordination, storyboards, 3D/2D animations, editing the final videos (in AE) and delivering final labelled DVDs. The projects will vary from basic talking heads, motivational/sales, PSAs, etc. – a single rate for all these functions. These responsibilities were handled by 3 separate contractors in NY.

Initially he will get a minimum of 20 hrs/wk – but it is expected to become a full time salary position within 6-12 months.
