Oh, and I like JVC products, but was told that their software for digital cameras is very problematic – perhaps this is an old issue, but still a concern…

Well I do tend to be a bit reactionary 🙂

It’s just that I’d received an email announcing trial versions being available for download – so I assumed it was ready for release…

I purchased the CS2 version of the Production Studio with the agreement (as per their page) to upgrade to CS3 when it comes out. I’ve heard multiple license owners get automatic upgrades sent to them first, but individual license folks (aka: me) have to ‘wait and be patient’ I guess. Otherwise, I’m hesitant to start bugging Adobe.

    Anyone else in this situation?

Is this something that is going to be compressed (ala: ‘Squeeze’)?

Ah, I see – so I’m getting reasonable results, that’s reassuring to hear. I’m pretty sure I’ll need to stick with a .swf format for the final (again, I’m still reviewing the total training DVD – still trying to get a mental grasp on the .flv vs .swf thing.) The test render I did looked good, but I have to manually resize the Sorrenson flash player window to fill my screen – I’m sure there’s a way to have it automatically do this, but I’ve yet to fully understand all the settings, etc.)

The first suggestion would be the best IMHO – depending on the detail in your frame. Another option could be to res it slightly and clean it up in PS (shadow/highlight is your friend) then run it through one of the ‘artistic filters’ to help hide the artifacting/lores look.

There’s also the concept of bringing it into Illustrator and use the ‘live trace’ function. Again – it would be an artistic interpretation (aka: posterized) but could make for an interesting and resolution independent work around.

    Just thoughts…

  • the ‘release to layers’ function worked for you, then there is pretty quick way to build this in illustrator and ae, but you won’t have much control… in illustrator i said to use the ‘release to layers (sequence)’, try using the ‘release to layers (build)’ instead. pull the new separated layer out of the parent layer and delete the parent. select all the layers and choose ‘reerse order’ from the layers palette menu and save.

I had recently watched the ‘cartoonification’ tutorial wherein they discussed using the ‘release to layers’ route – and I like the animated masks suggestion too… I was going to suggest using particle playground or the trapcode particular option w/ a stick function for the logo elements, but that’s prolly too much trouble…

I’d try using card dance sectioned into blocks small enough to encompase each dot – or perhaps foam. If they’re all in a row, perhaps you could just animate a mask to reveal them in sequence (ala Vegas) or just play with the venitian blind transition plugin…

No, it’s on a PC (an odd experience for me, but that’s all they use here.) I was familiar with the Sorenson name and other forums/users just sang its praises so I blindly requisitioned it in good faith. I’m hoping to get a copy of Ben Waggoner’s “Compression for Great Digital Video” and get a better grasp on the subject, but am always looking for additional resources.
