Why not just print to tape and make it really loud, maybe no one will notice.
If it wasn’t recorded in one nonstop stream from each camera or you can’t just sync up all 4 streams due to camera pauses, stops or just plain tc breaks or glitches, it may help to cut one song at a time in the timeline. Hopefully one of the cameras has an uninterupted stream for a base track, possibly a wide safe shot. Murphy’s Law will inevitably apply here. The c/u cam where you really need lip sync will be the worst. By starting at the front and going song by song you may see a pattern develop. IE: cam 2 is 20 frames off; cam 3 is 10 seconds off and cam 4 is 15 sec off at the end of each song. It all helps sync up faster. You may discover one camera is really crappy footage due to a bad angle, exp. or whatever so you don’t look at it till you’re stuck.
I hope the firestore doesn’t automatically break the video into clips instead of capturing one long stream.“everything is broken”

Most edit decks have a “line in” switch you can set to the inputs you need. Most consumer decks access this through the on screen menu. You want to set it for “line in” in the recording area on the on screen menu. There may be a choice of front or rear inputs.

I was scrounging around on the Seagate site and noticed the 15,000 rpm baracuda uses 512 size blocks. They recomend making adjustments in 4,s. Ezample: 512, 516, 520, 524 etc. Those are a lot bigger than anything I’ve heard of so far. I guess when the platter is spinning that fast the heads cover a lot of ground when they touch down. This seems to enforce the logic that video is big stuff and can utilize larger blocks for optimum efficiency.

Thanks for the tute Capt. M! What do you think of re-sizer by digital anarchy? It sounds perfect for this type of situation but it would be great to hear from someone who has hands on experience with it.

DVDSP 4 will encode your HDV to HD-DVD using the HD MPEG-2 codec. DVDSP also uses the H.264 codec for HD-DVD. Both DVDSP and Compressor will handle your assets using these codecs. You can currently burn HD-DVD onto todays red laser media with your superdrive. These are only viewable on the Apple DVD Player. Current dvd set top machines will not play them nor will Blueray Players. Current DVD red laser is burnt using 0.74

I agree with Jeff. You’ve made do until now and it sounds like you are considering FCP 5.1 or do you have it now? We may well see FCS6 out soon after the computers debut. We are getting an new version of OS10 so I wouldn’t be surprised to see FCP optomised to match. Gotta keep ahead of the Joneses you know.

You need 2 of those cables and go to radio shack and get a couple of barrel connectors. They are male rca at both ends and allow you to join your 2 patch cables together. The other sugestion above with the digital 8 camera is perfect too. They have digital 8 (mini dv) heads AND analog heads built into the camera. It will do an AD convertion while you load it into the computer with firewire. You will have to use “capture now” as there will be no time code this way.

Right , you need to convert the ntsc vhs to pal 1st. then digitze it. I don’t know how long the program is but there are software converters if you have the means to capture it in ntsc. The only other thing would be to record it off a broadcast monitor with ntsc and underscan with your camera. I’ve never tried this but turn off the lights if you do! Most buisinesses charge about $35.00 per hr. for vhs conversion. They may even feed it directly to your camera for you.
