locating time code capture problem
When I am capturing from my JVC camera, it will capture a 30 seconds or so and then stop and say “locating time code”. The video also looks all jerky when it is capturing. I tried changing the firewire cable and it didn’t help. The video plays fine through the camera. I’ve tried capturing the same footage through a different camera and it does the same thing. I don’t have any problems with new footage shot with a different camera ( captured through that different camera). Help! I’ve got parents and students waiting for their graduation tapes, recitals, etc.

Sounds like you may have set the camera to a different mode when shooting this particular tape. No way to know from here.
The speedy solution is to dub this tape from your camera to another deck that you have carefully set to record miniDV or DVCAM and then capture the new copy.
Also try capturing into iMovie. Sometimes that works. You will export out of iMovie to the DV codec, iMovie’s DV Stream codec cannot be used directly in FCP.

Have you tried using “capture now” as opposed to logging?
