[John Dobovan] “Have you heard anything further about the release date for the 64GB cards? “

I think it was on the B&H site where they said August but I just checked and they are estimating September now.

Haven’t seen it, was it used? E series is around $625.00.
The 64GB E series is supposed to be out this month for just under $1000.00 so if you wait it will be like buying 2 32Gb’s at $495.00:)

Way to go Ben, it’s refreshing to see someone “thinking outside the box”!

I’ve been using FCP since version 1 on a G3 but I try to skip upgrades and just buy every other one. I’m not a full time editor, I’m a one man band who shoots and edits. I’ve been living with fcs1 on a dual 2GHZ up to now. Wouldn’t you know FCP6 and FCS2 would be the ones I’d be trying to skip:( . My next computer will be a lap top so I can’t afford to replace my PPC too. I’ll likely give this a try.

[John Fishback] ” We use an AJA I/O to capture analog video. It acts as a frame sync which is very good for capturing VHS. If you want virtually no loss of quality, you should capture 8-bit uncompressed. DVCPro 50 would also do well.”

This is what we do also. AJA i/o’s are around quite cheap on the used market and worth having around for all they can do for the price. DVCPRO 50 makes much nicer DVD’s than DV does.

From there you need to find a decent deck IN GOOD CONDITION and use good cables.

July 2, 2009 at 8:31 pm in reply to: creating live web link in dvd studio pro

I’ve used this for corporate clients. By putting the link on it’s own menu page, if the link doesn’t automatically link the viewer to the web page, then the background image of the menu has the web address typed in inviting the viewer to visit the site.

I think you can even use the “jump to” instruction from the end of the track to get to the access link, taking the viewer automatically to the web page after the dvd ends. (on compatible computers)

    June 3, 2009 at 6:45 pm in reply to: 32G vs 64G P2 E-Series Cards

I didn’t think the 64GB E-Series cards were out till August.

The biggest cards are usually the best price per GB.

The interface is the part that wears out and the E-Series cards are guaranteed for 5 years based on one insert per day as I understand it. I suppose the nature of what and how you shoot on average would enter into the equation at some point. If you find you normally load a card to 20 GB and then end up dumping the footage at that point it would make no sense to use a 64GB card. If you find you often capture 40 or more GB on a card before dumping then you should be getting the 64GB cards.

My cards go for long periods of no use between shoots so the one insertion per day doesn’t effect me. I go for the biggest cards available so I can shoot in 1080 most times and not have to worry about running out of storage.
