As suggested before … go with the Zaxwerks.

I was just on their website and there is a way to have the 3D look follow the Camera you create. They have a tutorial on their website.

    https://zaxwerks.com/3dserpentine/index.shtml

3D Serpentine … check it out.

G-Raid is nice … and eSata does help … but in the future I would recommend the Raid via Fibre Channel or using internal HardDrives. They are easy to install on the MacPros.

November 25, 2009 at 5:43 pm in reply to: FCS 7 upgrade in the middle of projects

MAKE SURE YOUR ARE UP TO DATE ON FCP 7 AS WELL … I believe the new update puts you in 7.0.1.

I Have ran into 2 issues … but 7.0.1 fixed them.

1 – Stopped saving my project (great … had to look online to save it somewhere else)
2 – Captured footage but deleted the Reel and TC info … what fun.

    Good Luck.

Other than that FCP 7 has some nice little upgrade features … like Speed changing a clip.

If I remember, I believe the Free Flip4Mac needs the older Quicktime to run … at the moment.

Until they make a new update. I would just leave it alone … unless it really bothers you. There may be a work around. … someone can post for you.

November 25, 2009 at 5:36 pm in reply to: Setting up LCD TV with iMac system

The Matrox is awesome …. but if you are on a budget.

    You can try this:

NOW I have a Sony M15U HDV Deck … and on that deck I can send the Output via Composite. (I did this before we picked up an AJA LE Card for our system)

Try this … if your deck can do it.

1st – Make sure the deck is on and connected via firewire.
2nd – IN FCP: go to View on the top toolbar and go to Refresh A/V Devices (or External Video > Refresh = FCP 7.0)
3rd – IN FCP: go back to View and make sure that ALL Frames is selected and that your Video Playback is through Firewire.
4th – Now on the deck: Maybe under settings or in the front … it should say input select and you choose DV.

If all that is set … move your Playhead / TCI (TimeCode Indicator for those of you) on your timeline and you should immediately see your picture on your LCD TV via Composite plug.

Now the quality isn’t the greatest but that does the trick.

And of course the better route is the Matrox or AJA or Black Magic I/O Devices.

    Good Luck.

November 25, 2009 at 5:28 pm in reply to: Why does my nested sequence need rendering?

IT shouldn’t do that to tell you the truth … I even just tried it to see what’s up.

DID you do a full render (Blue Lines on the top of your Timeline Window)???

Also make sure your sequence that holds all of your nested sequences matches the Settings of those nested sequences.

  • I haven’t read what others have said … but I think this is great idea. It will help with the clutter of the forum.

IS there a way you guys can make a link to BASIC FCP or BASIC Questions in the normal FCP as oppose to going back to the Forums Index and clicking FCP Basic?
So many new people are in such a panic of issues that when they come on the first thing they see is just the words Final Cut Pro … without even thinking to read and find the right forum to jump into.
Also make the link RED so that it stands out to everyone who comes in?

My status puts me down as a newb because my last email client lost my email info … long story … Made a new log-in … so I have actually been on the Cow for some years now … anyways.

I think this is a great idea again and hopefully it will help all of us from Newbs to Hobbyists to Avg Users to those of us who use it in professional environments.

November 24, 2009 at 3:04 pm in reply to: HD/SDI from MBP display port?

Interesting … because I am able to do that for Projectors. DVI Out to them for live shows that I do. And it even recognizes the Second monitor as a preview monitor that I can use with Final Cut.

Not to test your knowledge on your Mac. … but did you tell the graphics card to make the second monitor a second monitor and not a mirror of your main desktop?

November 23, 2009 at 6:36 am in reply to: Animated outline/stroke

Have you tried creating lines with you pen tool and then generating a stroke?

Also … I would recommend previewing you animation in a low res format to make sure it is moving the way you want. Then when you are happy and ready to export … there a few tips to help with the export render time.
My Fav tip … Hit Caps Lock ON and purge your memory … I have noticed between 1% – 5% increase in Render times and less waiting for the render … hey 1-5% can be a big number when your talking about hours of rendering.

    Good Luck.

November 23, 2009 at 6:29 am in reply to: HD & SD footage in FCP

Jerry’s technique is real good …. but if you are on a short deadline I would recommend DownConverting.

I have found the quality difference isn’t major enough to take the time in converting ProRes to SD.

My workflow usually goes from my Sony HDV Deck Hardware downconvert into FCP, but then again I have demanding deadlines.

I agree with Jerry in upgrading your system would be very wise and less of a headache down the road.

Since you have an Intel Machine … FCP 7 would be find to upgrade too and it’s not to costly either to jump up to FCP 7 either.
