Yea the joints work that way too. The reason you need more rigs is to get the short radius twisting anywhere in the arm.

Depending how the arm moves and level of detail its really about compositing.
I actually say the demo reel of a guy who made a couple shots of that arm but I cant find the link now.
Simply put make a fully rigged arm stretch and animate it and composite it over the video. You will need multiple rigs in various length and flexabilty. I suggest a spline IK for the long one and adding alot of stretch in the short one.
    good luck,

yep, is it a “real” arm you want to strech or a cg character?

If your not moving the object you could just select the edge points and under Dresser “fix points” BUT then the object cannot be moved around,

In the texture tag under the projection type there is an option called “side”. It is defualted to “both”. Put two texture on your plane and set one texture to front and the other to back.

Until Brian gives you a full answer I would look at the range mapper. Nice tutorial here.

As far as i know there is no automated way for this. You are going to have to create one texture for each plane and change the time range in the material settings.

you just changed your viewport. There is a botton under the back arrow click on that and get the viewport options. After you pick the one you want you can save it as your start up view Window:layout menu.
