You want to play with the proximal shader. Get that right and place it where the legs are.

Fastest way is to use the the free ROLL IT plug in.

Other wise you have to calculate the size of the wheels so they rotate X times per Y metres.

If you are rendering quicktime you have to have that at 25 too.

what version of C4D are you using? This has been a serious issue before r11. There are solutions but generally require huge render times.

If your render is larger than the the resolution of the texture this will happen. Zooming in too close will do the same thing.

    Maybe Morph targets.

Thinking particles would work too. Use a single shot emitter.
Have you tried Mograph with the random effector too?

There are primitive circles that you can use.
Take a circle and make the radius for example 10.
Make another circle and make the radius for example 200.
Take a sweep nurbs object and drag the two circles into it. The top one will be the shape and the lower one will be the path.
Then you can animate them with the end/start growth option in the sweep nurbs attributes.
Just repeat this till you like the network.

AO is part of the Advanced Render Module so I have to ask, do you have that module?
I don’t think you have to have a sky for AO. You need it for Global Illumination.

When faking AO or GI I find using an array of 4-7 lights over each element in the scene in addition to a single omni (w shadows) in the sky. (Non of these would be set at a high strength.)

Try setting your shadows to soft and if need be use negative lights in places to remove unwanted high lights. I have seen really great renders with out AO or GI so long as you take the time to light.

    Good luck

I would approach this with splines and sweep nurbs and place them manually around the globe because the atom array is extremely limited and its hard to work with transparent materials. You can animate the sweep nurbs manually or if you have any expresso experience you can set everything up with an itinerations.
Here is a file that I made a while back that gives a similar expresso set up.
