  • Align to Spline rotates wheels using Xpresso …

Posted by Tim West on October 29, 2009 at 8:21 am

    Hi,

I have a scene with a car model which moves along a spline using the align to spline tag.
Is it possible (using Xpresso) for the rotation of the wheels to correspond to the car’s speed along the spline (e.g. the cars wheels appear to turn whenever the car is moved using the position value in the align to spline tag)?
I’ve attached a scene file with my ‘attempts’ at this so far

    Thanks for your time,

    T

Fastest way is to use the the free ROLL IT plug in.

Other wise you have to calculate the size of the wheels so they rotate X times per Y metres.

This is something I’m trying to do now. Being that this post was originally 2009, the Roll It plug in no longer works with R13. Can you give me the method for xpresso to use with the align to spline position so it rotates the wheels?

a couple adds to that old post. The commercial solution is Drive 1.5. The first file I created for that older post is just simple movement along an axis, to take the single wheel and Align to Spline and get rotation looks like this

Thanks. Eventually I found a great tutorial by 3D Kiwi from C4D cafe. He had a tutorial called Tut88 Wheel. He went through all the Xpresso commands and explained the reasoning for each. I wish I could find the link. Thanks for your help
