You get more depth with a sweep nurbs but it is dependent on your lighting and all that. You will want to avoid thin lines with S&T they will get anti ailiasing issues when rendered.

Might be that your files are a little to big for your computer to play back at full res. Try lowering the quility of your timeline.
If that does not help check your AE project RAM preview see how the playback is there.

Sweep nurbs and tracers are nice to work with for this in addition to Sketch and Toon you will be able to get good results….there was a tutorial around something about IPOD but I cannot remember where, or who made it.

Right Click on the object in the Object Manager and click on OBJECT information that is your poly count.

As for reduction I generally do it by hand welding and moving points…. or in more cases than not I remodel using the first as a guide.

As for using the poly reduction you can current state object command and start over sometime you get a little closer but I cannot really say its worth the effort.

Why not get the r12 demo so. You can use the full dynamics then.

The “extruded part” just needs a material on it…. so put a material there and place it to the left of the other materials so it does not block them out. SInce they are on a “selection” they will not cover that area of the object. You may need to preview render to see it.

As for animating around the object…. there are a few ways to do this and they all involve different ways of projecting your texture. You can try changing the projection and see what you get of you may need to UV map the object (ONLY works on polygons NOT nurbs) there are some good tutorials on different texture projections. I know c4dcafe has a tutorial on it.

If you go into the Help tab and look at personalize do you have Mograph 2?

From your description its sounds like a difficult way to add the bolts…. however to answer you all you need to do is change the Cloner Mode to Object and drag the spline into the link option that appears when you swap mode.

The easiest way is to make the extrude object editable then everything gets seperated for you. But if thats not an option you can see on the purple text how to isolate the texture… writing R1 or R2 in the material selection will keep it on the rounding of your cap. C1 or C2 will isolate just the caps.
Also in the purple example you can see that you can keyframe the knots in the gradient. You can use that in the Alpha Channel to create a highlight…. my example is inverted. I did not check it before I uploaded it.

It was an extra module that you needed to buy in addition to Cinema. If you did there would be a MoGraph drop down menu at the top of your screen.
