What you get in FC while capturing is just a preview. Look if the files when captured look and sound well. And why you want to capture a worst quality audio (32Khz) when you can work with the original 48 Khz with higher quality?

You got few good articles in Ken Stone website and in the LAFCUG. Start with a good maintenance of your system: Repair permisions whenever you install something new and use now and them DiskWarrior or Techtools to keep your Mac running well.

The question is that without TC you can not control any king of machine from FC. Biscardi didn’t answer what kind of signal you get in FC from a DVD via Firewire.

You say that your using MagicBullet Editor. In that case I’ll rather install in my Mac a Nvidia instead of a ATI. The peopleo of MB say that with NVidia MB effects render faster than with the ATI.

A good transcoding from Pal to NTSC it takes time. I tried with compressor (Manual frame control) and it takes ages but de difference is noticiable. I’ve never tried the one of Nattress but I heard very well about it.

Try to open them. If they open properly should be a problem of the Finder that display the thumbsnails wrong. Relaunch the Finder: Apple Menu> Force Quit>Finder>Relaunch. If the FC thumbnails keep wrong, fix the Finder with Techtools or Diskwarrior.
