There are plenty of DVD driver that you can connect to your Mac but I don’t think no one can do what you want, capturing from FC.
I would recommend you MPGStreamclip. This free application allows you to select easylly the takes you need from the DVD (just marking IN and OUT points) and export the clips to QT with the codec and set-ups that you choose.

If you are just starting I would recommend you the first of the Apple Pro Training Series. If you got allready a bit of practice with FC, then go for the book of Kevin Monahan.

That the reason you must de-interlace to clean the blending. The de-interlacer of Photoshop is not the best one. You better do it in FC, AE or Shake.
The change in the aspect ratio is normal because your watching with an application that do not interpret aspect ratios. Is just a matter of displaying the picture, because you still having the same number of pixels. If you bring your still to FC, Shake or AE and you set the correct pixels-aspect will look weel in your monitor. In Photoshop or QT they will look defformed.

What John sugest you is a god solution. The BM codecs are free from the web and they work in PC. The Apple 8/10b Unc are not supported in PC.
The BM 10b Unc its got an issue with some gamma shifting but only when used with FC 4.5. Other solution is, as Jeremy says, Animation although you will be in the RGB space.
To avoid problem with the FC-QT files (the ones with the FC thumbnail) that can be not recogniced by the PC you can export a refference or self-contained QT movie from that or easier anf faster: Open your file with QT> Select all and Copy> Open a New Window in QT> Paste and Save as Sel-contained or refference movie.

Working with interlaced footage you can allways get wrong with a progresive monitor. Things that are OK can look bad and things thar are wrong interlaced can pass unnotided. An interlaced monitor, even a simple TV, wont decive you.

To see if is a problem of FC try to capture your clips with the QT recorder (in the QT player) set in Quality: Device Native.
See what happens.

Yes Leo, the new PS3 is based in the new BlueRay format of SONY and support MPG2 with bigger size and 422. I’ve never extracted images from a PS game but when I picked things fro DVDs (with MPGStreamclip) I’ve exported them in 8/10b Unc. The quality used to be really good. Just keeping the original size.

Can’t you get it through the “Blackmagick Desk Controlaplication’ that can with the BM drivers? It supposed to contol a video desk seting IN and OUT points based in the TC.

If you are working with an external monitor and with NO LEGAL levels, you can get every kind of unespected effects. Some times you can get interferences even in the audio when the video signal got to high luma.
