system optimizations?
Posted by Baba Goof on January 12, 2007 at 2:28 amcan anyone point me towards articles or webpages detailing mac osx and
hardware optimizations for fcp? i’ve searched and haven’t come up with much.
there seems to be a lot more of this kind of thing on the pc side. do people
just use their macs out of the box generally?obviously a noob,

January 12, 2007 at 3:45 amGo to “lynda.com”. THey have a tremendous amount of these kind of tutorials.
There’s plenty of other books and sources out there. Google away.

January 12, 2007 at 3:58 amPick up a copy of “Optimizing Your Final Cut Pro System” by Sean Cullen, and more. Its from Peachpit Press. I found it on Amazon. Tons of usefull info for getting the most out of a Mac and FCP in a pro environment.

January 12, 2007 at 5:19 amYou got few good articles in Ken Stone website and in the LAFCUG. Start with a good maintenance of your system: Repair permisions whenever you install something new and use now and them DiskWarrior or Techtools to keep your Mac running well.

January 12, 2007 at 5:43 pmnot to be a nuisance but could anyone post some more direct links?
been searching but the searches i’m doing don’t seem to get me to
anything very specific. i’m interested in things like what services
i can disable, how to do that, optimizing disk throughput, minimizing
extraneous graphics. some of this may be overly pc oriented in my
concerns. these are things i commonly do on pc based systems. would
love to find the specifics online for doing these things on a mac.
looking into the ‘optimizing your fcp system’ book recommended above.
more interested in the system performance issues with regard to os/
hardware rather than workflow but seems like a good general reference
as well. will probably pick it up. have the total training tutorials.
really just looking at system level info though.thanks again,

January 18, 2007 at 12:49 pmAbout Hardware, just don’t use your main Disk for capturing or to keep the render files. Save these in NOT JOURNLED disk. Allow journaling only in your System HD.
