ok heres the deal fcp 5.1.2 and motion to match it (all from new upgrage pack) i am cutting an open on FCP i usaully use avid’s nitirs but have to use FCP this time, ok so what i am doing, is simple on avid, i have a person intoduce themselfs and i freeze for 3 seconds on them and do a treatment, it’s easy 2 layers for the freeze bottom get treated top is cut mask so bottom come thru, in avid i use a animatte, in FCP i am told to use motion however when i export the freeze frame i made in FCP by doing the make freeze frame, it exports the whole pice of video and not the 3 seconds i am using.

So is there an easier way like is there any tool out there that sits inside FCP and allows you to create a matte with more that 8 points, or is there something i did wrong, this export inport stuff could be good if you have time but I dont have alot of that here.

You are exporting the wrong choice on the Quicktime Menu.

Park the cursor on the frame you want to export.
    Then:

Step 1: File> Export> Using QuickTime Conversion… “Save” window appears
    Step 2: Format> Still Image
Step 3: Options… > Format: (choose PNG, PICT, JPEG, Photoshop etc.) > OK
Step 4: Name your image, Set location (disk, folder, desktop) for your new still. > Save

After you have your new image you can manipulate it in Photoshop (et.al.).

And there is a 50 points Bezier Matte filter that you can download free from the web (Tom’s filters).
