    Hi,
DVCPro is a SD codec and if you are in NTSCland, DVCPro NTSC is the same than NTSC DV.

    Hi Sarah,
You can use the Nattres Plugin to transcode to any codec. Have a look to his website:
    https://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
If you got any question, just send him an e-mail. Hi is very nice guy and will answer you really fast.
I read of few people in this forum that says they got really shocked with the quality and the speed of the process.

    Hi Gunleik,
I don’t know much about the PS3, but I read that basically support MPG2 with hight definition and Chroma sampling (422). Those formats are not supported by QT. If you want to do such kind of MPG2 you can not do it with Compressor but I know that Cleaner can do it. But I really don’t know how to play the files that you will get after.

  • Another very interesting solution is the Sheer Codec. 10/8 b Unc (444/422). Really small files less than half size than any other Unc, and without the bugs of the Apple 10b Unc and compatible PC/mac. Since I’ve got it I do not use other 10b codec.

  • The apple codecs (Unc 8/10b) are not for PC, but have a look to the BlackMagic codecs. They are basically the same than the Apple’s, but are compatible and free from the DeckLink web site.

    Fred,
Is not the .plist that you must trash. As Dave says, go to Users/Library/Preferences. Them you will find a “Final Cut Pro User Data” folder. Inside you will find three files with the FC’s thumbnail:
    – FC pro 5.0 Prefs.
    – FC Pro Obj. Cache.
    – FC Pro Prof Cache.
These are the ones that you have to trash.

Not a question of fees Rich. MPG1 is a free format since a few years and nobody have to pay for it. Is just that the manufacturers want allways make our life easier and they care about our pockets :-).

    Hi Michael,
MPG1 is a 320×240 pixels format and you can not get much from it. If you go to re-edit the files I would recommend you to de-mux them and export to QT but to a better codec than DV (DV50 or 8b Unc) and in PAL. Them do the transcoding to NTSC with Nattress Standar Conversion.

    Hi Sarah,
Compressor can make a very good transcoding as long as you set the “Frame control” in Custom mode, but this make the rendering killing slow.
I would recommend you have a look to the Nattress Standard Convertion Plugin. It’s works much faster and the quality is really good.
