Is not a stupid idea at all. A plug-in that freeze, de-interlace and put the sound of a still camara. If you heard about please let me know:-)

Just bring to DVDSTP the MPG2 and the AIFF. If you bring the FC movie, DVDSTP will convert them again in MPG2 and AIFF and you will end up with those files duplicated.

Hi Uli,
I’m trying to improve my DVDs and I’m experimenting with short GOPs. Now it seems that the most of the DVD players can cope with a higher data-rate and the difference in quality is noticiable. But I’m not sureabout howmuch to push the Average and the Maximum Bit-rate. I remember that you were very aware of this technology.

Just capture your BetaCam footage as 8/10b uncompress. You will get a much better key.

Which ever program you use apply first a chroma smoothing filter this will help you to pull a key from DV footage.

Are you exporting the audio as AIFF? Although the video data-rate is not too high, try Dolby.

I don’t see much sense in what you go to do. If you go to pass to RGB for CC and then recompressed again to do it more managable, you never know with what you go to end up.
I just would do it with FC.

When you convert DV to MPG2 you are compressing the signal again and the file you get is not suitable for editing. There is a teoreticall degradation of the picture but visually can look even better than the original DV file. A good MPG2 looks less blocky than DV and shows a more pleasant texture.

What you need is to make two different CC, one for the full image and one for the face. Colorista can do it because you can work with masks. Color do it as well.
And there is a free plugin “Face light” that is very useful to do that too. Look in Google for the “Marcus plugins”
