MiniDV key – whether i Like i or not.
Hey!
Received some chromakey-footage from a source that i need to key.
The bakground is a kinda nice lit green chromakey
( available sunlight, but on a shadow day – so pretty even )
– but the recording is Dv PAL – and I know this will give me headache….Have never keyed this kind of footage before.
Whats the best way? FCP ? MOTION? AE? Cs3 ULTRA?
(Would like to stay inside FCPS2 if avisable )special tips someone?

DV can be a pain because of the compression. I’m a big fan of dvGarage’s dvmatte pro. I’ve only used it with HDV, but it’s designed to work around the color sampling of lower-grade formats like DV and HDV.
This is a $200 plug-in, so maybe not the way to go if cost is a higher priority than quality. Sometimes we all just have to work with what’s already in front of us.
If that doesn’t work for you, I would still stay in FCP unless you have AE. Garbage matte your footage and use multiple instances of a keyer rather than trying to stretch one to do everything.

Which ever program you use apply first a chroma smoothing filter this will help you to pull a key from DV footage.
