I was told that FCP can import and playback 720/50p in a 25p sequence but I don’t see the specs supporting this on the apple webpage. Can someone confirm this? Thanks in advance.

It can be hacked into doing this. Check: http://www.aulich-adamski.de (the site is in German, but the explanation is in English).

    Hi Uli,
We’ve been missing you for a few months in the Cow. I guess you have been busy with your new responsabilities (IMF).
I wanted to ask you long ago for a good set-up for short GOPs MPG2. When you got time.
    Thanks in advance,
    rafael

    Hi Rafael,

nice to hear from you. I was buried deeply in Apple’s Color…

What do you mean by short GOP ? Betacam SX?

    Hi Uli,
I’m trying to improve my DVDs and I’m experimenting with short GOPs. Now it seems that the most of the DVD players can cope with a higher data-rate and the difference in quality is noticiable. But I’m not sureabout howmuch to push the Average and the Maximum Bit-rate. I remember that you were very aware of this technology.
    Cheers,

Well, short GOPs are a trade-off between coping with very fast changes in the image (like hand-drawn animation) and the need of a higher data rate.

The usual half second data rate is kind of a “sweet spot” for typical footage from a camera.

Don’t set your data rate too high for DVD-R, many players start choking beyond 8 or 8.5 mbps. For replicated disks you can go all the way to 10.08
