In the “USERS PREFFERENCES” try un-checking “Warn when importing non-optimiced media”.

If you would have a Blackmagic or so you could capture from the Video Out of your DV camera directly in 10/8b Unc. The result is awesom and you don’t need any pre-process to pull an incredible clean key in Shake.

Hi Wil,
A) If you do not check “Recompress all” only are recompressed the clips in wich you have change something (effects, motion tab,..) If you only set IN-OUT and export USING QT (NO QT CONVERTION) you are just exporting a piece of the original footage. Not loose of quality at all. The same is if you export a refference movie.
B) Export with a different codec would be interesting for you if you would pre-process the clip in FC. For example if you would apply a kind of Chroma Smoothing to make easier to pull the key, you should export the clip as 8/10b Unc or so. If you make this pre=procesing in FC and them you export as DV the pre-procesing would be waisted.
C) I always capture DV. It take less space on the disks and in case any capture-card would introduce any improvement in the image, such a improvement can be done through software too.

In the EDIT menu of the Finder you got the “Special character” palette. I think you can insert it from there.

You can try like that but you must uncheck “Frame blending” when setting the speed.
Joe’s Filters got a Beta of a “Field Expander”. You my have a try.

I do that in FC with the “Posterice Time” of BCC.

How do you keep your system? Do you run Diskwarrior or Techtools? Before to look for posible problems in FC, make sure that your system is optimiced.

Very interesting thread yes. XDCam and DVCProHD are the options that I’m considering too. I read what ever I can about those two formats to see if there is any tip that make me decide for one or the other. But I’ve got a simple question. How can the two systems give a similar quality when one run a signal of 100Mbs and the other one only 35Mbs? From a theoreticall point of view DVCProHD should allow much better quality. Or not? Any idea?
