    Hi and Help:

I recently and mistakenly recorded footage with audio set at 12 bit/4 channel. Now I’m having trouble capturing in FCP.

I’ve tried changing capture presets/audio to 4 channels, last 2 channels and 32 kHz (preset to 16 bit), but this isn’t helping.

When I try to capture, I either get a message about “looking for timecode” and then an abort or just a plain abort with the message that something may be wrong with my tape.

I’ve also tried to solve the problem by creating a one-step movie in iDVD but the end result is that the video/audio is wonky.

Can anyone help me get out of this jam? Is there any hope?

    Thanks!

In the “USERS PREFFERENCES” try un-checking “Warn when importing non-optimiced media”.

    Thanks for responding.

So, in theory, this should allow me to at least capture the footage. That’s a big step…however, once I get it in to FCP, now what? I still have potentially wonky footage, as was evidenced when I burned the footage to a DVD in iDVD.

Once its in FCP, do I need to go ahead and convert the footage to match sequence settings of 16bit/48 kHz? If so, what’s the easiest and most efficient way to do this?

BTW, are you any chance Raph from U of Maine?

    Hi Nicolle,
No, I’m not Raph from Maine. I’m from Spain and living in Laos.
Once you capture the footage the only problem that you will have in FC is that the audio have to be rendered because FC can not work with 12b audio. The video don’t need to be rendered as long as the time-line setting match the video format.
    Cheers,

o.k., so how do I render audio only?

spain…a very different place than Maine!

    Nicolle,
When you put your clips in sequence you will see a thin red-line on top of the time-line under a thin grey line. The thin gray line mean that your video don’t need to be rendered. The red line says that your audio need rendering. To render the audio just click the clip in the time-line and type: Com-R. this will render the audio.
