I plugged it into the wall outlet to charge the batteries (I wasn’t using it to power the camera directly).
I’m in the UK (so I was using an adapter)… but it was a quality adapter and I know the Anton Bauer battery chargers and equipment can be used in US/UK ect… no problem.
The charger beeped and then died. No burning smell. I’m sure it’s a fuse or blown chip…

The biggest problem is that at the time I was in OXFORD (which is 2 hours outside of London in the countryside). Not to mention is was Sunday. I wasn’t able to get batteries until the following afternoon and as a result missed an interview and some b-roll.
I ended up having to us block batteries with a long three pin power cord.

I COULDN’T find the anton bauer batteries at any of the UK vendors.
In fact I was surpised to learn that not only did Arri Focus not carry the batteries but they didn’t even carry VARICAMS!

I wan’t to figure out how to avoid this type of thing in the near future. I’m actually going to be shooting in China for 10 days and am realizing that something like this could be devastating for the shoot. I think instead of ONE quad charger I’ll bring two dual chargers (that way if one fails I’ve got a back up). Wish we could afford to double up on everything…but we can’t. You wouldn’t happen to know of any camera/grip/lighting houses in China would you?

It worked this time.
I restarted final cut and it was fine.

“smooth cam” is weird.
For some reason I thought it analyzed the clip and took the jitter or shake out, but it’s doing something different. It’s putting some kind of motion in the shot… a tilt/pan movement.

I didn’t tell it to do that… all I did was click smooth cam and by default it did the tilt/pan movement.

I’m in filters playing around with it but can’t figure out how it works.

great. I’m going to give FCP a shot. the only thing (and this is a FCP question)… but it’s pertaining to this thread so here goes.

How do I tell final cut pro to only bring one single frame in?? I tried in the preferences but it did nothing… when I drag the jpeg into the timeline it’s still a big long clip of the still frame.
I only need a single frame. Is there an easy work around?
I’d like to establish a workflow.

Firewire it is.
It’s weird that I’m using firewire when I have a Kona 3.. but I guess it’s not a limitation of the Kona 3, it’s a limitation of the DSR-11.

Yeah I’ll probably get one of the component to “S” Video adapters for the future.

Chris, I didn’t even know there was a D-1 codec in FCP 6.

so there is NO essential information needed on those extra frames?
No timecode or anything that would be needed to eventually do an HDCAM 10bit color correct and delivery?

I just don’t want to have to go back and re-capture at 59.94 later on (after the edit).

We’re considering this our ‘offline’… I think we’ll bump up to HDCAM 10-bit for color correct and delivery.

I’m asking because I’m considering the fact I don’t know what I don’t know.

Sounds like capturing at 23.98 is the way to go.
