September 17, 2012 at 2:37 am in reply to: Can I copy key frames (tracking power windows) from one clip to another?Edit: Rephrasing and Simplifying my question.
Is it possible to replace a 1080P Uncompressed clip that I’ve graded with a 4K R3D file?
The clips are identical frame for frame with the exception of the resolution, codec and bit depth.
There are 11 nodes and moving power windows with many key frames that would need to translate over.Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.
Michael
PS – it’s a 9 minute clip ! (will this make a difference)?

July 13, 2012 at 7:06 pm in reply to: What is a “Matte Filter” and how does one execute it? See link for explanationI agree. I can’t seem to figure out what the exact procedure is.
The Technicolor is a very specific look and often I see not so great “versions” of Technicolor online.
The original Aviator Tutorial seems to be damned close to the real thing… I just can not figure out what “Matte Filter” is.Does anyone know how to accomplish this look or what “matte filter” is?
best,
Michael

September 3, 2011 at 7:31 pm in reply to: Having difficulty exporting proper frame size from Adobe Premiere.Prior to posting I was trying to figure this out for 45 minutes… and naturally the moment I posted I solved it. When exporting media aspect must be “square pixels”.

August 3, 2011 at 9:44 pm in reply to: Apple Color renamed files and now XML won’t sync up with footage. Is there a workaround?I tried that and at first FCP progress bar looks good and then stops at 48%. I’ve tried several times and waited at least ten minutes. Is it supposed to take that long?
thank you ! -

August 3, 2011 at 9:32 pm in reply to: Apple Color renamed files and now XML won’t sync up with footage. Is there a workaround?essentially, after color I then started to recut based on the new colored sequence because I couldn’t stand to look at the ungraded material. I know. Really stupid mistake… I’m not an editor.
trying to dig myself out of this one. -
Wow.
Dave thanks for getting that information. Straight from the horses mouth : )
I guess I’ll steer away from the GTX 285 but that begs the question, which graphics card will work best on OSX ?I guess Nvidia recently released the Quadro 4000 but is currently only listed as working with Windows machines on Adobes site. I’m assuming an update will come soon enough for OSX (hopefully).
Any thoughts on graphics cards?
kind regards,

Dave.
Thanks for that great post!
I’ve got a pretty basic question I was hoping you could help me with.Does the Mercury Playback engine and the Red Rocket work in unison (do they compliment each other) ?
Or if one is working does the other one just sit idle ?I’ve currently got a Mac Pro with a Red Rocket installed and am seeing decent playback of R3D files in Adobe CS5 (5.0.2)… I am however using an ATI Radeon 4870 which apparently does NOT take advantage of the MPE (I need an Nvidia card for that). I’ve been thinking of installing an Nvidia GTX285 which is listed on the Adobe site a qualified CS5 card… but before I do this I want to make sure I’m going to see a significant performance boost.
Thank you!

November 9, 2009 at 8:38 pm in reply to: BlackMagic Mini Convertor HDMI to HDSDI. several problems please helpI concur with everything you’re saying.
I will add that the AJA HA-5 does NOT auto switch to 480 upon pressing the record button. I was shocked when I figured this out (spoke with AJA tech)…. I think the black magic is actually the better adapter when used with the 5D MK II.
Abel Cine Tech makes a power adapter to run off Anton Bauers for the AJA, it’s under 100$ bucks.
I understand that Canon is releasing an “update” ; ) for the MK II sometime in the first half of 2010. Hopefully they’ll address these issues.
1. Full HD out of the HDMI during recording
2. Audio and HDMI can simultaneously be active during recording
3. 24P -

October 22, 2009 at 3:59 pm in reply to: BlackMagic Mini Convertor HDMI to HDSDI. several problems please helpactually it sends a 1080 30P or 29.97 signal through the hdmi UNTIL you press record (at which point the signal goes to 480P).

October 22, 2009 at 3:57 pm in reply to: BlackMagic Mini Convertor HDMI to HDSDI. several problems please helpYeah Bob you’re right.
I called Black Magic yesterday… the tech immediately knew the answer as he’s had a bunch of the exact same Canon 5D MK II calls. Nonetheless, I’m returning the blackmagic for an AJA (which I wanted to get in the first place but couldn’t find it on the day I needed it).The AJA HA5 definitely does 1080P 30 and bandpro makes a custom cable to go from my anton bauer battery on the back of my monitor.
so problem solved.
thanks everyone.
