Perhaps this isn’t the right forum, but I am shooting with the Varicam.

    My question is:

Can anyone suggest some high quality yet easy to use make-up/ foundation/ that will work for covering up sweat or oily skin on the talent. We don’t have it in the budget for a make up person… so suddenly it’s become responsibility.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

I charge good rates as a cameraman, yet I’m constantly surprised to learn that makeup artists often make more than I do, and work shorter hours and hardly lift anything. Yet their value to the final picture can not easily be diminished. Some camera people do carry powder to ameliorate the issues you describe, but I consciously choose not to, because I have little to no expertise in this field and would rather not be accused of ruining the picture because of a poor application of makeup.

If the “look” of the subject, vis-a-vis the makeup, hair or wardrobe is that important, then their should be a suitable “glamor” department to accommodate. JMHO!

    John.
I couldn’t agree more. I can’t imagine myself applying makeup, but in this case I’m going to (if the guy starts sweating). Anyone else?

Less is more… that is my rule with makeup. Typically, I don’t like makeup on Men. I often ask men to wash their faces before an interview. . You can also carry a bottle of witch hazel and clean the oil off the face. Some shine is OK in my opinion. If you want makeup, go to Nordstorm or another high end store and buy some powder in a couple of different shades. Use it sparingly.

Professional makeup artists are a good resource as well.
