Thank you for that very detailed explanation. I’m wondering what happens to the “metadata” that’s stored in the MXF files once it’s converted to quicktime/finalcut?
Can it be utilized in anyway?

Yes it does have 16:9. I have no idea how I managed to overlook that?

ooops. I see that the 14L5 does indeed do 16:9.

Wonder how it handles Progressive? 720P or 1080p @ 24fps?

I just realized that the Sony 14L5 doesn’t seem to have 16:9? The other one does… why is this?
I need the 16:9 option. Any fixes?

Ok so the LCD is out of the question.
I’m sold on the PVM series.

Now one last question if you please!

Between these two Sony PVM series CRT monitors which one would you guys go with?

Thank you. I thought that was the case… Have you seen what a conversion like this looks like projected on a big screen?
If the quality isn’t good then perhaps this project will just live in the realm of 4:3.

Scratch that- I ended up getting a used Lectrosonics UCR100 series from location sound for $600… it’s in great condtion/perfect working order. This unison with a nice lav mic should work great. I certainly trust Lectrosonics too.

Less than $700. I usually rent from Location Sound… Lectrosonics. However this job is like a month long and the rental would be a LOT… so I thought it would be a great opportunity to buy something that I can get some use out of in the future.
I made a decision to go with the Audio Technica ATW-U101X

PRICE IS: $499.00 plus an additional $80 for the lav mic (AT831CT5 lav mic)
