  • DSR-11 not playing back the TIMELINE in monitor??

Posted by Pierre on February 1, 2006 at 1:16 am

I just bought a DSR-11 today. Can’t get playback (in NTSC monitor) from TIMELINE. It works fine in the Log and Capture window… but when I drag some footage from the bin into the timeline I get nothing.

    Here is my setup.

    FCP-5 with Dual G5
    GRAID FW800 drive
    Dual cinema display
    15″ NTSC Monitor
    DSR-11

The deck is conected to my G5 via firewire. The NTSC monitor is connected to the deck via the RCA outs

“Apple Firewire NTSC” is selected for playback.
    “All Frames” is selected.
    I’ve “Refreshed A/V Devices”.
I’ve quit and relaunched FCP… I’ve restarted the mac.
And repeated these steps in variation with no avail.

I’ve also tried both on/off “DV EE OUT” in the DSR-11 MENU.

Can’t figure out wants going on?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Michael

Make sure the front switch is set to “DV.”

    More proof of my insanity!
I’m going to stand in the corner and and have a “time out” for 15 minutes.

Did you ever figure out how to do this? I’m having the same problem and they are telling me I need to buy a separate break-out box. Help?

Is there a solution or do I have to buy a separate break-out box?

    Thanks.

Make sure the switch on the front is set to DV, and:

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.

    Shane’s Stock Answer #8:

A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv

Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.

Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video

Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV

If for some reason you can’t view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:

    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.

    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.

    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.

    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.

    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices

    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed

If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

Did anyone ever tell you how incredible you are? One correct click of the mouse on “all frames” and voila! I had the Apple dealer telling me I had to buy a $300 breakout box.

Will you be my valentine? Thanks so much.

Wasn’t suggesting anything. I’m married, too. I was just excited to find the answer was a click of the mouse and not $300.
