https://images.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/pdf/FinalCutPro_5.0_Qualified_20050814.pdf is the compatible devices page. The DV1000 isn’t on there – hasn’t been since it was discontinued (for good reason) – it was one horrible deck. Mine died (needed new heads) after about 50 hours of use. Piece of sh**. Don’t depend on it.

Are you sure you have all the render types checked in the ‘Render’ and ‘Render All’ submenus under the Sequence Menu? You probably do, but it never hurts to ask…

How does it look on your external monitor? Your computer monitor won’t give you an accurate representation of your image.
You should always be editing and evaluating your imagery with an NTSC (or PAL, depending where you are) monitor.

Are you using Firewire Basic device control? That is what Apple says is required for that camera.

June 10, 2005 at 2:22 pm in reply to: Where is Graffiti (FCP5)?

When I installed FCP5, Title 3D and Title Crawl weren’t in the generator pulldown or in the Effects tab of the Browser. They WERE, however, in the plugins folder. I simply put the 4 Boris plugins (yes there are 2 new ones) in their own subfolder (I just called it “Boris”) within the plugins folder and they then appeared in the usual places in FCP. Can’t explain why this works but it does. Hope that helps.

It’s called Range Check. In the canvas, in the right hand pulldown menu (of the 3 pulldown menus) unchecking “Show Excess Luma” will toggle it off.

View Menu>Range Check> has options, too.

    Control-Z toggles it as well.

Remember, too, that OS 10.4.1 has been released; don’t forget to upgrade your OS before installing anything else (and repair permissions before and after the installs).

You will most definitely need more storage, as you don’t want to capture to your startup drive, so I would first add a Hitachi 250GB or 400GB drive as your second internal SATA drive and capture to that. As you progress to more demanding transfer rates, an external SATA drive setup would be one way to go.
