I have a Canon MVX3i (Optima) camera. It will not be recognised by Final Cut Pro 5 (running on OS10.4.2 and using Quicktime 7.01) or any other application (iPhoto, iMovie) when attached to a Mac G5 via firewire. I realise this has been an issue and I have already looked at the advice on the Apple website about removing receipts and reinstalling Quicktime which I have done to no avail.

The camera works fine on my powerbook running FCP4 and my other (Panasonic) camera works fine on the problematic G5. I have even tried another firewire cable and slot. Nothing. There is no info on the Canon website.

This is an expensive (and very nice) camera and I cannot accept that I am going to have to sell it for such an annoying reason. Please help.

Are you using Firewire Basic device control? That is what Apple says is required for that camera.

Thanks for the response. I am using Firewire Basic, there isn’t really much choice in that one.
If you go to the System Profiler and look under firewire devices the camera doesn’t even show under there.

I think I know that the answer to this question is YES there is a conflict with that camera and Quicktime 7.

I have done all the normal checks and have posted here on the offchance that someone out there must have a similar set up.

I have contacted Canon but don’t expect a response in the near future.
