April 4, 2008 at 7:24 am in reply to: Need advice. Final Cut Pro BetaSP Deck Control Black Magic Question.I am extremely happy with my Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme-card. It has all inputs and outputs in HD and SD and both picture and sound are brilliant. I haven´t had any issues with it. The price of it is also making me happy.

In Sony´s DV-Cam deck hierachy from bottom (DSR-11) to top(DSR-2000), somewhere in the middle is Sony DSR-1500. It is the first model to be able to play back DVCPro-tapes. Ofcourse all higher models will do it also. None of them play back DVCPro-50- or DVCPro-HD -tapes

I would say DVD Studio Pro 4 is the latest. And what I ment in my previous post was that user should manually pic this aiff from audio formats.
But I see your point in lowering data but I´m always so suspicious about packing the audio… -
First thing:
DO NOT letterbox your video!!This is my work flow:
1. Export your timeline from FCP: file – export – QuickTime Movie, then in the Save box
Settings: Current Settings
Include: Audio and Video
and also set cros to Make movie Self-contained
2. Open this moviefile in Compressor. Check the inspector box that there is corrrect field dominance, many times if the file is progressive, Compressor thinks it is interlaced and destroys the quality.
Then choose DVD: Best Quality 90 min. Pick the mpeg codec and and for soud pick formats – audio – aiff 48:16. Then chance from ispector your settings for GOP to IP and GOP size to 6. Hit Submit.
3. Open DVD Studio Pro. Open Preferences, and chance from the Generals – SD DVD Menus, Trascks, and Slideshows to 16:9. Open new project. Thats because those setings come to use only in a new project. Then import your movie and audio file. Create menus and stuff. Before hitting “Burn”, on the top of the screen go to Window and chooseGraphical view. In the Graphical view click your movie. Go to Inspector and chance display mode to 16:9 Letterrbox. Now DVD players wil show your documentary in correct way.
4. BURN!Sorry about my english…

Go for Artbeats, they are great! Stuff is exellent in both technical and artistic way. And they are good for tight budgets and they deliver fast.

Well, here in Europe, (you know, the other continent, behind the big water) NO ONE has been shooting with beta for years. Stations do take in master tapes in beta, but they prefer digibeta or even dvcam (witch is strance to my opinion). Archival stuff is offcourse totally different story. There we are going to need beta decks for decades from now.

The easiest and the cheapiest way is to get a deck with a firerwire connector.

Use XDCAM-EX, it´s smaler so it´s easier to operate in tight aeroplane/helicopter. Use EX well-working in-built optical imagestabilisator. Use 50i or even better 60i mode to get maximum motion information. Use 1/250 second shutterspeed. If using 60i use Cinematools to chance framerate to 50i, result is slichtly slo-motioned but hey, it´s aerial so it does only good foor it. Let the FCP smoothcam filter do the rest and enjoy INCREDIBLE results!
