In this kind of problems, meaning no sound or picture, I have found the best to start from the beginning and go thru the whole signal path to make sure all the cables are working, connections are right, and switches and settings are right.

    So in Your case:
Does the hi-8 camera give the signal out? Connect it with the SAME cables direct to TV or videomonitor. If it works, connect HI-8 to dsr-11. Be sure You connect it in to the right connectors, meaning IN-connectors. Now connect dsr-11 output to TV/monitor. Check out the position of dsr-11 input selector-switch on the front panel. It should be s-video or video depending the cable You use. Now roll the Hi8-tape. Does the signal go thru Your dsr-11 to monitor? If not, start over again. But if it works fine, as I suppose it does, chec the firewire-cable between dsr-11 and MAC. Now You should be able to see the picture in FCPro preview. If not, try to roll DV-tape. If You see the DV-tape signal in FCPro, but not Hi8, go to dsr-11 menu. There go thru this path: VTR SET – VTR – DV EE OUT. This DV EE OUT should be set ON. Now ewerything should work. In FCPro You seem to have allready the right settings.
