Analog material to FCP via DSR11 & a host of other unrelated(?) questions
I understand the best way to capture material is recording it first to DV then capturing it ( I did read some of the other posts) but my question(s) relate to capturing from an analog source and the particular problem(s) I am having.
I have a Sony Video 8 Handycam. From that via RCA cables going to a DSR11 inputs. Then out via a FW to my Mac G4. I get no video in preview and when I try to capture I get an error reading, “This operation could not be completed as there is no video.” The tape is playing in the camera and the connections have been verified. Am I missing something??? My A/V Settings are as such:
Sequence Preset and Capture Preset both read DV NTSC 48 Khz.
Device Control Preset – Non-controllable device
Video Playback – Apple Firewire NTSC (720×480)
Audio Playback – Firewire DVThere is another problem that may go hand in hand with this. I am getting “No Communication” in my Preview window. By the way, I should mention if I capture from the DSR 11 using a DV tape everything works fine.
Final question – If I capture audio only, I get an error reading, “FCP HD was unable to read the movie file just captured.”
I am new to the FCP world and have taken some training but this is stumping me for I feel this process shouldn’t be that difficult so I must be missing something right in front of my eyes but my experience (lack thereof) is not allowing me to see it.
Thank you and please feel free to contact me if you need further information.
