  • walter,

I share your pain, I went through something similar in April, but I ended up getting the grey screen of death. 🙁

    have you tried:-

Opening up a dummy project in the same resolution first, then opening up the project with the troubled timeline?
Considered running the 6.5.2. QT reversioner? (not too sure what what happen to your media)
Are you running a standard video card? My G5 was fine until I installed the ATI drivers, but that could have been coincidental.
Does it still happen if you duplicate the project?
Does it happen if you move the project & media onto another system?

Have to say the only thing that fixed it for me was an archive & install – I hope it doesn’t get that serious and it is something simple that fixes easily.

    Good luck!

There is a macro on Highend2d that does this in Shake or Martin Baker at Digital Heaven https://www.digital-heaven.co.uk/indexflash.htm has Reincarnation for FCP – but that won’t help for 2K unless you can play the media in FCP.

In Motion, it might be a bit fiddly but you could duplicate the layer, move it 1 pixel up/down or left/right then mask out everything except the pixels you want to replace.

  • Having just used the largest Xsan for video in the UK, a few comments:-
(there is a photo on my website)

Xsan works very well, a bit of a mind bend though if you are used to Unity as it doesn’t work like that!
You just import the files you need. Keep it lean & fast to keep the project overhead down.

We only tested one shared project on the san and that seemed fine although the overall concensus is that projects started locally then transferred to the san will eventually corrupt.

What I would say though is make sure you go to a reseller that has Xsan experience. It is not rocket science to setup, but it is not easy either. Once you configure your san you cannot go back and start tinkering to improve performance, you will lose the data. Set it up, soak test it, then start using it. My vote would be for 5.6TB XserveRAIDs as every LUN needs a port on the fibre channel switch and maybe think about a 4G FCS as this is now the limiting factor for speed in the equation. If you want to use a “san in a can” solution, try looking at the Terrablock.

Try posting on the Xsan forum should you need any more info

    Les,

Yes. Use Animation then render it on the FCP timeline.

    Alan,

The lack of good slomo in FCP was a moan of mine a long time ago.
The good news though was that Graeme Nattress wrote his 50% filter for me which converts fields into frames for a “VT like” slomo. https://www.nattress.com/set2.htm

I use it all the time!

[Jerry Hofmann] “here’s not any filter to my knowlege that will do this “automatically”… keyframe, or live with it I’d say…

FYI sapphire flicker remove does exactly that, just set the area that you want to stay the same.
