need Help to fix auto iris footage
Posted by Shadow on July 8, 2005 at 11:41 pmHey guys. I am trying to work with a clien’ts dv footage in FCP5 and have a problem with the video’s brightness/contrast/gamma inconsistency because they used auto iris. How do I get FCP to level my clip so that it appears to have the same level of consistency? I really don’t want to have to keyframe filters because it would seemingly take forever with unknown results. I tried auto levels in the 3 way color corrector and also tried some other filters, but none of them actually looks at the whole clip and creates an average or balance. Any help would be most greatly appreciated! Thanks!

July 9, 2005 at 1:44 am🙂 Jerry! I was asked at NAB to write such a filter. It’s nearly working. Alternatively, After Effects has a filter that will help.

July 9, 2005 at 2:38 amYou would think that this would be a simple yet very important filter plugin for you or apple to create. I used to have Premiere Pro with Matrox and I vagely recall something that worked for this. Oh well, I guess that I will have to mess with keyframing for now. I don’t understand why something like this has not been made yet. Good luck with your filter creation. Please let us know when it becomes available!

FYI sapphire flicker remove does exactly that, just set the area that you want to stay the same.

July 9, 2005 at 12:35 pmI don’t do audio plugins – that’s not my field.
However, I’ll endeavour to get the auto exposure undo plugin working and on sale before too long.

I was going to ask same question today about uneven exposure and your filter is exactly what I am looking for.
Let us know when approximately you think you’ll have filter ready for sale. Thanks for doing that.Mariusz

July 9, 2005 at 7:05 pmAvoid shooting with Auto Iris next time altogether. Pro shooters usually are in manual 90% of the time, setting exposure based on zebras and/or a good field monitor. Of course, you probably knew that. I never use it, even with consumer gear primarily because of the problems you are running into.

That’s easy to say when you’re the shooter, but I’m just the editor. I have to take whatever crap they give me & then make it look like John Ford. And sound like Preston Sturges.
