Steve, I just posted a similar issue above. I got an hour 2 cam corporate thing to edit with FCP. Audio was straight into the cameras. Tone on the HVX-200 is -12 which FCP loves.
Tone on the Sony Z5 is -20 which FCP can’t hear very well. I had a terrible time bringing the -20 audio up to match the -12.
So with so much product being edited on FCP now (used to be an Avid Guy) why is FCP set up to ‘hear’ -12 with usually no gain and -20 can be as much as 7 or 8?
Copying and paste the normalization filter doesn’t work obviously because each piece of dialog is unique. What a pain.
I’m open for suggestions.

Chris,
7.3 made my DeckLink unusable. 7.3.1 seems to have fixed it. There was a problem with QT 7.3 and P2 imports because of some coding issue and perhaps a plugin. Maybe that coding problem (something to do with a NULL being 1 rather than 0 as it was in previous vers of QT) is what’s going on. BM did not respond to the problem and thank goodness I did not have to do a downconvert while Apple seems to have fixed it for me at least.
Good luck,

Here, Here! I need to do a realtime downconvert and save myself the time of dropping HD into an SD timeline in FCP.
Whazz up, how about at least some news?

November 22, 2007 at 2:59 pm in reply to: new drivers still do not fix these two major bugsI’m getting that crazy resize/flicker then freeze and crash of FCP 6.02. Don’t know if it’s this supposed “bug” in FCP or QT7.3 or a separate problem.

Walter, With all due respect have you not seen the “I can’t see the P2 material” problem that’s been quite prevelent?
I just got this from Imagine Products, I don’t mean to start a war, but since i went to QT7.3 and 6.0.2, I’ve had to go back to 6.0 to get P2 material in:
From Imagine P2 Log:
“The new QT 7.3 changed (slightly) how null values within the MOV file header are defined. Apple, for some unknown reason, departed from the long standing zero (0) designator for a null setting–now a minus one (-1) value = null. This small change (which may have been an oversight?), causes QT Player and any QT based application attempting to play the MOV file to fail since the QT engine no longer knows what action to perform when a zero designation is encountered.” I am no programmer but something is very different for me.
BTW, Love your Color DVD!

I just got an email from Apple support and it seems that only those with the disappearing P2 problem at some point had P2 Log installed. Removing it doesn’t seem to fix even with a reinstall of FCP 6.0.2
Curious, how many that are experiencing the problem had/have P2 Log installed?

Jeremy,
Good thought. I’m on it right now. What this tells me is that QT7.3 works okay by itself and with 6.0 so it must be the way 7.3 and 6.02 don’t play well together.
Thanks for the thoughts,

Shane,
I wasn’t snipping at you. I am just so frustrated. I have Sent FCP reports, System Profiler reports, uninstalled Qmaster, etc. Even tried to go back to QT 7.2 which i find requires a severely complex script which I don’t have the savvy to do.
You have always been a great help and a huge assett to the video and specifically the HD P2 community always. I meant no disrespect aimed at you. Your tutorial on how to even get my G4 to read a P2 was great! Please don’t take it personally. I jumped to 6.02 basically way before I ever do, specifically for the Dupe Sequence, lost render problem. Lesson learned.
The reason I dragged Panasonic into this is, it would seem that it would be in their best interest to get their engineers working with Apple’s to solve this “vaporish bug”
Thanks for your help,

For what it’s worth. I just put a trailer 4 min. on blip.tv for “free” I exported a reference and then used Adobe Flash Exporter, but could have used Sorrensen or whatever. File size was small relatively and folks had access to it even if they were QT naive. Dont know how it works with the long GOP structure though.
I believe you can password protect it as well.

Zach,
I tried your method to the tee and still no import of P2…
Darn, thought it would work.
