  • FCP/Apple updates?

Posted by Steve Cohen on November 21, 2007 at 6:50 pm

I downloaded a bunch of the apple updated this morning (from the Software Update option underthe Apple), but did not have time to install them.

Are they stored somewhere or do I have to do the download again?

    Thanks

If you ran the program from the Apple menu (instead of downloading from apple.com) then you’re done. It downloads and installs.

If you are running FCP, and you downloaded an update for QT 7.3 – but have NOT installed it – I’d think twice before doing so. Lots of problems going around on the forums with the new QT update and FCP.

The QT update pretty much shut me down.

I did that, but stopped before the last download was done, so I did not do the install yet.

First of all that link is a dead link.

Second I did these updates on my system at home and have had no problems.

What types of issues are there?

    Thanks

What problems are you having? All the apps are running fine here, even the CS3 apps are running good.

First off this post probably belongs on the OS X forum.

If when you run software update again and it wants to download them again, then yes you will have to download them again.

I could be wrong but I believe that when software update downloads an update it is to a temp location.

Walter, With all due respect have you not seen the “I can’t see the P2 material” problem that’s been quite prevelent?

I just got this from Imagine Products, I don’t mean to start a war, but since i went to QT7.3 and 6.0.2, I’ve had to go back to 6.0 to get P2 material in:

    From Imagine P2 Log:

“The new QT 7.3 changed (slightly) how null values within the MOV file header are defined. Apple, for some unknown reason, departed from the long standing zero (0) designator for a null setting–now a minus one (-1) value = null. This small change (which may have been an oversight?), causes QT Player and any QT based application attempting to play the MOV file to fail since the QT engine no longer knows what action to perform when a zero designation is encountered.” I am no programmer but something is very different for me.

    BTW, Love your Color DVD!

Sorry about the link – but amongst other issues – many users are finding that their DV capture capabilities have been limited to 5 to 6 minute segments…. or less. This happens regardless of whether or not batch capture or the ‘capture now’ features are used. Quite frustrating when your project requires hours of capture, and must be logged in 5 minute or less increments.

Be aware that there are a few who it has not effected, but the reasons are unclear at this time what seperates those who are and are not.

You can check out the Apple.com, support, disscussions, Final Cut Pro for more info. A couple of good threads you can type in a search for are:

    “WARNING: QUICKTIME 7.3 BUG”

    and

    “QUICKTIME 7.3 NIGHTMARE!!!!”

If you have updated, and remain unaffected – count yourself amongst the chosen few and be happy.

    Peter,
I’m sorry if I tell my story again.
Last week I installed Tiger, QT and the full FCS2. Perfect installing. Step by step. Repairing permissions after each single install.
When I went to open FC: The list of the Easy setups wouldn’t open.
Close FC and run DiskWarrior: 32% of items out of order.
Rebuild directories. Open FC: The list of the Easy setups opens.
I don’t think there is any bug in QT. The problem is that many people who runs a Mac do not understand that under the applications there is a system. And if this system do not works properly there is not application that can runs as should be.
I swear again that I don’t get paid for DiskWarrior neither by TechTools. But i don’t understand how nobady can make run a Mac without then.
